Jodhpur, October 10, 2026: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended Exercise Tarang Shakti in Jodhpur, where the Indian Air Force showcased its operational capabilities, multinational coordination and growing use of indigenous defence platforms. Singh used the occasion to underline the government’s push for greater self-reliance in defence technology and manufacturing.
IAF Demonstrates Operational Readiness
The exercise featured advanced aerial manoeuvres, coordinated combat operations and interoperability drills involving multiple aircraft and support systems.
The event was aimed at demonstrating the Indian Air Force’s ability to operate in complex and high-intensity combat scenarios.
Focus on Indigenous Defence Technology
Rajnath Singh highlighted the importance of reducing dependence on foreign defence systems.
He stressed that India must continue developing and producing more aircraft, weapons, sensors, communication systems and other military technologies domestically.
‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in Defence Back in Focus
The Defence Minister linked the exercise with the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
He said stronger domestic defence manufacturing would improve strategic autonomy and help India respond more effectively to emerging security challenges.
Tarang Shakti Highlights Multinational Cooperation
Exercise Tarang Shakti is designed to improve coordination between the Indian Air Force and friendly foreign air forces.
The drills provide participating forces an opportunity to exchange operational experience and practise joint missions in simulated combat conditions.
Advanced Platforms on Display
The exercise included modern fighter aircraft, transport platforms, helicopters and support systems.
India also used the event to showcase the capabilities of locally developed defence equipment and technologies.
Defence Exports Also Gain Importance
Singh said India’s defence sector is no longer focused only on meeting domestic requirements.
The government is also seeking to expand defence exports and position India as a reliable global supplier of military equipment.
Private Sector and Startups Encouraged
The Defence Minister stressed the role of private companies, startups and research institutions in building India’s future defence capabilities.
Greater collaboration between the armed forces, DRDO and industry is expected to remain central to the country’s defence-modernisation strategy.
Air Power Remains Critical to National Security
The exercise comes at a time when air power, drones, precision weapons and networked warfare are becoming increasingly important in modern conflicts.
The IAF is therefore focusing on both operational preparedness and faster adoption of new technologies.
Jodhpur Exercise Sends Strategic Message
By combining large-scale military drills with a strong emphasis on indigenous technology, Exercise Tarang Shakti serves both an operational and strategic purpose.
The event highlights India’s aim to strengthen combat readiness while building a more self-reliant defence ecosystem.
