Srinagar, October 5, 2026: Jammu and Kashmir’s two main government recruitment agencies collected around ₹114 crore in application fees from job aspirants over the past three years, even as the number of government vacancies advertised witnessed a sharp decline, according to figures shared by the government in the J&K Assembly.
₹114 Crore Collected From Aspirants
The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) and the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) together collected approximately ₹114 crore from candidates applying for government jobs during the three-year period.
JKSSB collected about ₹89.50 crore while advertising 11,003 posts, while JKPSC collected around ₹24.43 crore for 4,961 advertised vacancies.
JKPSC Vacancies Fall Sharply
Government data shows a significant fall in the number of vacancies advertised by JKPSC.
The commission advertised 2,586 posts in 2023-24, which declined to 1,400 in 2024-25 and further dropped to just 357 posts in 2025-26.
JKSSB Recruitment Also Slows
JKSSB had advertised 5,044 posts during 2024-25, but the number fell sharply to 1,731 posts in the following financial year.
The figures have drawn attention to the gap between the large number of aspirants paying application fees and the shrinking availability of government jobs.
Figures Presented in J&K Assembly
The details were disclosed by the government during the ongoing autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
The data has once again brought government recruitment, vacancies and employment opportunities for young people in the Union Territory into focus.
Job Aspirants Face Growing Competition
With fewer vacancies being advertised, competition for government positions is likely to become increasingly intense.
Thousands of candidates continue to apply for recruitment examinations, often paying separate application fees for different posts and examinations.
Recruitment Trends Under Scrutiny
The decline in advertised vacancies has become particularly noticeable since the current government took office in October 2024.
The latest figures could intensify discussions around government hiring, vacant posts and employment opportunities for youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
