MUMBAI, September 6: The Maharashtra government’s newly constituted high-level committee on recruitment examinations will seek suggestions from students, candidates, parents, teachers and other stakeholders as part of an effort to make government recruitment tests more transparent, secure and candidate-friendly.
The seven-member panel, headed by senior IAS officer V. Radha, will review the examination system from question-paper preparation to declaration of results and recommend measures to prevent paper leaks, impersonation and other malpractices.
Entire Recruitment Exam Process Under Review
The committee will examine multiple stages of recruitment examinations, including:
- Question-paper preparation and moderation
- Creation of multiple question sets
- Printing and digital distribution
- Secure custody and transportation
- Examination-centre management
- Recording and evaluation of responses
- Declaration of results
- Grievance-redressal mechanisms
The panel will also study how technology can be used to strengthen examination security.
Focus on Paper Leaks and Impersonation
The government’s move follows concerns over irregularities in recruitment examinations in Maharashtra.
The committee has been tasked with suggesting safeguards against paper leaks, impersonation, collusion and misuse of electronic devices during competitive examinations.
The review comes amid increased scrutiny of examination systems following controversies involving state recruitment tests.
Students to Give Direct Feedback in Pune
As part of the consultation process, the committee will visit Savitribai Phule Pune University on September 12, where it will interact directly with students and candidates.
Suggestions will also be sought from parents, teachers, educational institutions, coaching institutes, public representatives and other stakeholders.
Special Feedback Cell From September 7
The Pune Collectorate will establish a special feedback cell from September 7 to September 10 for candidates and citizens who want to submit suggestions regarding recruitment examinations.
Those unable to visit the centre physically will also be able to send their recommendations electronically.
The feedback collected will be forwarded to the high-level committee for consideration while preparing its recommendations.
AI, Biometrics and CCTV Among Technologies in Focus
The reform exercise is also expected to examine wider use of technologies such as digital monitoring, biometric authentication, CCTV surveillance and artificial intelligence to prevent cheating and strengthen examination-centre security.
The committee will study practices followed in other states and examination systems before submitting its recommendations to the Maharashtra government.
Government Seeks to Restore Candidate Confidence
The objective of the exercise is to create a recruitment examination system that is more reliable and resistant to malpractice while improving the overall experience of candidates.
Stakeholder feedback collected over the coming days is expected to play an important role in the committee’s final recommendations.
