New Delhi, June 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted India’s growing defence capabilities during the latest edition of Mann Ki Baat, praising the successful test of the indigenously developed Long-Range Land-Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The Prime Minister said the achievement reflects India’s rapid progress towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat and strengthens the country’s ability to develop advanced defence technologies through indigenous research and manufacturing.
Indigenous Missile Test Marks Major Milestone
Referring to the successful flight test conducted earlier this month from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast, Prime Minister Modi said the missile was developed jointly by DRDO laboratories and Indian industry partners.
He noted that the successful test demonstrated India’s growing expertise in strategic defence technologies and showcased the country’s expanding indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Focus on Self-Reliance in Defence
During the broadcast, the Prime Minister said several achievements recorded in June have strengthened India’s national security and technological capabilities.
Along with the cruise missile test, he highlighted the maiden flight of the Made-in-India C-295 military transport aircraft and the induction of three indigenous naval platforms into the Indian Navy, describing them as examples of India’s commitment to defence self-reliance.
Boost to Domestic Defence Industry
The Prime Minister said India’s expanding indigenous defence programmes are creating new opportunities for Indian industries, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), while generating skilled employment and encouraging technological innovation.
He added that collaboration between government research institutions and private industry is helping build a stronger domestic defence manufacturing base.
LRLACM Strengthens Strategic Capabilities
According to DRDO, the Long-Range Land-Attack Cruise Missile successfully met all mission objectives during its flight test.
The missile has been designed and developed entirely in India with contributions from multiple DRDO laboratories and industry partners. Defence officials say the system will significantly enhance India’s long-range precision strike capability once inducted into service.
India Continues Push for Advanced Defence Technology
Prime Minister Modi reiterated that indigenous innovation remains central to India’s long-term defence strategy. He said continued investment in research, technology and domestic manufacturing will further strengthen the country’s security while reducing dependence on imported defence equipment.
