Australia Beat India to Reach Women’s T20 World Cup Semi-Finals; India Eliminated

London, June 28: Australia secured a place in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 after defeating India in a high-scoring Group A encounter at Lord’s on Sunday. The victory ensured Australia’s unbeaten run in the group stage, while India’s campaign came to an end.

Asked to bat first, India posted a competitive 170/4 in 20 overs, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a brisk half-century. Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma also made valuable contributions, helping India set a challenging target against one of the tournament favourites.

Australia Produce Clinical Chase

Australia recovered from an early setback with an impressive partnership between Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner. Perry anchored the innings with a fluent half-century, while Gardner accelerated during the closing overs to keep Australia firmly in control.

The six-time champions chased down the target with overs to spare, underlining their dominance throughout the group stage.

India’s World Cup Campaign Ends

India entered the match knowing that victory would guarantee a place in the semi-finals. However, Australia’s successful run chase meant India were eliminated from the tournament.

Despite posting one of their best batting performances of the competition, India’s bowlers were unable to contain Australia’s experienced middle order during the death overs.

Australia Advance Unbeaten

Australia finished the group stage unbeaten and will now head into the knockout stage with strong momentum. Their balanced performances with both bat and ball have reinforced their status as one of the favourites to lift the Women’s T20 World Cup title.

The semi-final lineup is now complete as the tournament moves into its decisive phase.
