BENGALURU, September 7: Google-backed Indian space-tech startup Pixxel has raised $100 million in a Series C funding round, marking the largest single funding round ever secured by a space technology company in India.
The round was co-led by Singapore state investor Temasek and UK-based Seraphim Space Investment Trust, taking Pixxel’s total funding raised so far to $195 million.
Temasek and Seraphim Lead $100 Million Round
Pixxel said the Series C funding round included both new and existing investors.
Participants included:

- IMM Investment
- Radical Ventures
- growX Ventures
- Other existing investors
Temasek and Seraphim co-led the investment, while 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment joined as new backers.
Although Pixxel has previously received backing from Google, Google was not listed among the participants announced for the latest Series C round.
Largest Single Space-Tech Funding Round in India
Pixxel said the $100 million investment represents the largest single private funding round raised by an Indian space-technology company.
The milestone highlights growing international investor interest in India’s rapidly expanding private space sector, which has seen increased participation from startups following reforms opening the industry to private companies.
The latest investment brings Pixxel’s cumulative funding to approximately $195 million.
Funding to Expand Satellite Constellation
Pixxel plans to use the fresh capital to significantly expand its satellite capabilities.
One of its biggest priorities will be the development of the next-generation Honeybee hyperspectral satellite constellation, which is designed to extend Earth-observation capabilities into shortwave infrared wavelengths.
The company expects the first Honeybee satellite to launch in 2027.
Pixxel also plans to develop additional sensing technologies, including:
- Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)
- Ultra-high-resolution optical imaging
- Advanced hyperspectral imaging
- Integrated Earth-observation systems
The strategy will allow Pixxel to collect different types of Earth data rather than relying exclusively on hyperspectral imagery.
Aurora Earth Intelligence Platform to Expand
Part of the new investment will also go towards expanding Aurora, Pixxel’s Earth intelligence software platform.
Aurora brings together satellite datasets and converts them into information that governments, companies and institutions can use for decision-making.
Pixxel is positioning the platform as an intelligence layer connecting satellite sensors with software and analytical capabilities.

- Agriculture and crop monitoring
- Environmental assessment
- Energy infrastructure
- Mining and mineral analysis
- Forestry
- Government and defence applications

Six Firefly Satellites Already in Orbit
Pixxel has deployed six Firefly satellites over the past two years, creating what the company describes as the world’s highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral satellite constellation.
Hyperspectral imaging captures information across many narrow wavelength bands, allowing satellites to detect details about materials and environmental conditions that may not be visible in conventional satellite imagery.
This technology can potentially identify changes in vegetation, water, minerals, pollution and industrial activity from space.
Pixxel Expands Beyond Hyperspectral Imaging
The company originally focused primarily on hyperspectral Earth observation but is now expanding across a wider section of the space-technology ecosystem.
The new funding will support four major areas:
- Advanced sensing satellites
- Earth intelligence software
- Sovereign space systems
- Satellite manufacturing
Pixxel said it intends to build what it describes as “planetary infrastructure”, connecting satellite sensors, software and space systems to deliver actionable Earth intelligence.
Manufacturing Capacity in India and US to Grow
Pixxel also plans to expand its satellite manufacturing capabilities in India and the United States.
The additional capacity is intended to support higher-volume production of advanced satellites as the company expands both its own constellations and satellite systems developed for government and commercial customers.
This expansion could further strengthen India’s growing private satellite manufacturing ecosystem.
NASA and US NRO Among Pixxel’s Customers
Pixxel has already secured major contracts and partnerships internationally.
According to the company, its recent milestones include:
- Contracts with NASA
- Contracts with the US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO)
- Multiple iDEX challenge wins from India’s Ministry of Defence
- Development plans for an orbital data-centre demonstration satellite
- Selection to lead a major Indian Earth-observation satellite programme
These contracts give Pixxel exposure to commercial, scientific, defence and intelligence-related Earth-observation markets.
Pixxel to Lead 12-Satellite Indian Earth Observation Constellation
Pixxel has also been selected to lead development of India’s first public-private Earth observation constellation under IN-SPACe.
The programme is expected to consist of 12 satellites, strengthening India’s domestic Earth-observation capabilities while increasing the role of private companies in national space infrastructure.
The project represents another major step in India’s strategy to build a larger commercial space ecosystem alongside ISRO.
Funding Signals Growing Strength of Indian Space-Tech Sector
Pixxel’s record fundraising comes as India’s private space industry expands rapidly following government reforms designed to increase commercial participation.
Indian startups are increasingly developing technologies across satellite manufacturing, Earth observation, launch vehicles, propulsion systems and space-data analytics.
The $100 million Pixxel investment provides one of the clearest signs yet that large global investors are willing to deploy substantial capital into Indian space companies as they compete for commercial and government contracts worldwide.
With its next-generation Honeybee satellites, expanded Aurora platform and growing manufacturing capability, Pixxel is now preparing for a broader push into the global Earth intelligence and sovereign space systems market.
