New Delhi, October 30, 2026: The Election Commission of India has extended timelines for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi and five states — Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana and Nagaland.
The move came a day after the Supreme Court urged the poll body to reconsider the deadline in Delhi and ensure eligible voters were not shut out merely because they missed an earlier cut-off.
Delhi Gets Extension Until November 25
In Delhi, the deadline for filing claims and objections has been extended to November 25.
The period for disposing of those claims will now continue until December 15, while the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on December 22.
Maharashtra Window Reopens
Maharashtra’s claims and objections period, which had ended on October 26, has been reopened until November 13.
The disposal process has been extended to November 25.
Timelines Revised in Four More States
The Election Commission has also extended processing timelines in:
- Andhra Pradesh: up to November 20
- Haryana: up to November 20
- Nagaland: up to November 25
- Telangana: up to November 26
Final rolls in all five states will now be published on November 30.
Supreme Court Had Questioned Delhi Cut-Off
During Wednesday’s hearing, the Supreme Court questioned whether voters left out of Delhi’s draft roll should be forced to use Form 6 even if they had previously been registered.
The Bench also suggested that ECI continue accepting relevant forms instead of treating October 30 as an absolute cut-off.
Court Stresses Importance of Voting Rights
Chief Justice Surya Kant observed that the right to vote is an important right and asked why voters should permanently lose inclusion merely because they were unavailable during verification.
The Court also suggested greater outreach to excluded voters.
Nearly 47.6 Lakh Names Missing From Delhi Draft
Delhi had about 1.45 crore electors when the SIR began.
Roughly 47.6 lakh names did not make it into the draft electoral roll, including voters marked as shifted, absent, dead or duplicate.
More Than 2.75 Lakh Form 6 Applications Received
Delhi election authorities have received more than 2.75 lakh Form 6 applications for inclusion since the draft roll was published on August 31.
The revised schedule gives voters additional time to seek inclusion or correction.
ECI Says Extensions Followed CEO Requests
The Election Commission said the revised schedules also followed requests submitted by the Chief Electoral Officers of the affected states and Delhi.
The development therefore follows both the Supreme Court’s intervention in the Delhi case and administrative requests from election authorities.
Final Rolls Pushed Back
With the revised schedule, final voter lists will be published on November 30 in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana and Nagaland, while Delhi’s final roll will come on December 22.
