India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently made headlines at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting by refusing to sign a joint document. India had already pointed out that Pahalgam must be clearly shown as a part of India in all documents. Despite this, the final version of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) document still left it out, which forced India to take a stand. The Defence Minister’s decision was fully supported by the Indian government. Officials also said that India continues to value its relationship with the SCO and its member nations. However, issues like maps and territory are highly sensitive and cannot be ignored. India believes that such mistakes in official documents can lead to confusion and may even be used for spreading false narratives.
