RIYADH, September 15: Yemen’s Houthi group has launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, targeting military installations including the King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait. Saudi-led coalition officials said 13 civilians were injured in attacks affecting Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif.
King Khalid Air Base Targeted
The Houthis claimed they launched dozens of missiles and drones against military targets in southern Saudi Arabia, including facilities at the King Khalid Air Base.
The group said aircraft hangars, radar installations, ammunition depots and runways were among the targets of the operation.
The latest strikes come amid a sharp escalation in fighting between Houthi forces and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces.
13 Civilians Injured in Three Saudi Cities
According to the Saudi-led coalition, 13 civilians suffered minor to moderate injuries following missile and drone attacks on:
- Khamis Mushait
- Abha
- Taif
Authorities also reported damage to seven houses and two vehicles.
No civilian deaths were immediately reported in the latest attacks.
Emergency Alerts Activated
Saudi authorities activated emergency warning systems in several areas as missile and drone threats were detected.
Alerts were reportedly issued in cities including Jeddah, Taif, Abha, Jazan, AlUla and Yanbu, advising residents to remain indoors, stay away from windows and follow official safety instructions.
Authorities later announced that the immediate threat had passed in several affected areas.
Fighting Intensifies in Yemen
The attacks come as fighting has intensified in Yemen, where Houthi forces have recently expanded their control along the country’s Red Sea coast and captured strategically important territory.
The group has also strengthened its position near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s most important maritime trade and energy routes.
Saudi-backed Yemeni forces have responded with counterattacks and airstrikes against Houthi positions.
Regional Oil Security Under Pressure
The renewed conflict has raised concerns over regional energy infrastructure and international shipping routes.
Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline has also recently suffered damage in a separate aerial attack, further increasing concerns about disruptions to global oil supplies.
The latest Houthi attacks add to growing instability around both the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, two strategically important routes for global energy shipments.
