General Dhiraj Seth Begins First Day as Army Chief

New Delhi, July 1: General Dhiraj Seth officially began his first full day as India’s 31st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) on Wednesday, assuming operational leadership of the Indian Army after taking charge from General Upendra Dwivedi. Defence officials said the new Army Chief has commenced a series of high-level briefings and strategic reviews aimed at strengthening the force’s operational readiness and accelerating its modernisation programme.

General Seth’s appointment comes at a time when the Indian Army is focusing on technology-driven warfare, indigenous defence manufacturing, and enhanced joint operations with the Navy and Air Force.

Strategic Briefings at Army Headquarters

On his first working day as Army Chief, General Seth chaired meetings with senior military commanders at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi. Officials briefed him on the current security environment, operational preparedness along India’s borders, ongoing modernisation projects, and the status of key defence acquisitions.

The discussions also covered infrastructure development, personnel welfare, and future capability enhancement programmes.

Focus on Modernisation and Self-Reliance

Defence sources said General Seth reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, drones, cyber capabilities, and advanced surveillance systems.

He is expected to continue promoting the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by encouraging the induction of indigenously developed defence equipment and reducing dependence on imported military platforms.

Emphasis on Joint Military Operations

One of General Seth’s key priorities will be enhancing coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force under the government’s integrated theatre command framework.

Military experts believe stronger inter-service cooperation will improve India’s ability to respond effectively to evolving regional and global security challenges.

Welfare of Soldiers Remains a Priority

Apart from operational preparedness, General Seth is expected to focus on the welfare of serving personnel, veterans, and their families.

Officials indicated that improving training standards, housing facilities, healthcare services, and career development opportunities will remain important aspects of the Army’s long-term agenda.

New Leadership for Changing Security Challenges

With nearly four decades of military experience, General Seth assumes command during a period of rapid technological transformation in defence.

Analysts believe his leadership will play a crucial role in shaping the Indian Army’s future strategy, enhancing combat capabilities, and maintaining high standards of professionalism while safeguarding the nation’s security interests.
