Chhattisgarh Announces ₹20 Lakh Assistance for Kulgam Terror Victims’ Families; Commercial LPG Prices Reduced

The Chhattisgarh Government on 1 August 2026 announced a financial assistance package of ₹20 lakh for the families of workers from the state who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attack in Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The announcement came as governments at both the Centre and state level expressed solidarity with the victims and condemned the attack.

In a separate development providing relief to businesses, oil marketing companies reduced the prices of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders across major cities from 1 August, lowering operating costs for restaurants, hotels, caterers, and other commercial establishments.

Chhattisgarh Announces Financial Assistance

The Chhattisgarh Government announced that the families of the deceased workers will receive ₹20 lakh as financial assistance.

State officials said the package aims to support the affected families during a difficult period and reaffirm the government’s commitment to the welfare of migrant workers employed outside the state.

The announcement followed widespread condemnation of the terrorist attack by political leaders across the country.

Jammu & Kashmir Government Also Announces Ex Gratia

Earlier, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced an ex gratia payment of ₹10 lakh to the families of each victim and condemned the attack, describing it as an inhuman act against innocent workers.

Security agencies have intensified investigations while additional measures have been taken to strengthen protection for migrant workers in the region.

Commercial LPG Becomes Cheaper

In another important development, oil marketing companies reduced the prices of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders from 1 August.

The reduction applies to commercial users such as:

  • Hotels
  • Restaurants
  • Caterers
  • Food businesses
  • Commercial kitchens

Domestic 14.2-kg household LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged. Officials said the latest revision follows improved fuel availability and easing supply concerns.

Relief for Businesses

Industry representatives welcomed the reduction, saying lower commercial LPG prices will help reduce operating expenses for businesses that rely heavily on cooking fuel.

Hospitality sector associations noted that fuel costs form a significant portion of operating expenditure, and the latest price cut is expected to provide some financial relief.

Investigation Continues

Meanwhile, security agencies continue investigating the Kulgam terror attack.

Authorities have assured that those responsible will be identified and brought to justice, while additional security measures are being implemented in vulnerable areas.

Looking Ahead

The financial assistance announced by Chhattisgarh is expected to help the affected families, while the reduction in commercial LPG prices is likely to benefit businesses across the country.

Officials said both humanitarian support and economic relief remain priorities as governments respond to today’s developments.
