Binance Resumes Withdrawals After $6.3 Billion Crypto Heist, FBI Links Attack to North Korean Hackers

Singapore, November 1, 2026: Binance has begun restoring cryptocurrency withdrawals in phases after a $6.3 billion security breach, while the FBI has attributed the attack to TraderTraitor, a North Korean state-sponsored hacking unit. Binance said it has already replenished or covered about 95% of the stolen assets and reiterated that user funds remain safe.

Withdrawals Resume in Phases

Binance said the first phase of withdrawals would cover major assets and networks including Bitcoin, Ether, BNB, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, USDT and USDC.

The exchange said additional networks and tokens will be restored gradually after security and stability checks are completed.

95% of Impacted Assets Replenished

According to Binance, it has now covered approximately 95% of the assets affected by the hack, up from 90% in its previous update.

The remaining 5% mainly consists of less-liquid tokens that are taking longer to source in sufficient quantities.

User Funds Remain Safe, Binance Says

Binance said customers will not bear the financial cost of the breach.

The company has used corporate resources and protection funds to replenish affected assets and said major balances including BTC, ETH, USDT, BNB, SOL, USDC, XRP and ZEC are fully backed.

FBI Links Attack to North Korean Group

The FBI has attributed the attack to TraderTraitor, a North Korean state-sponsored cyber unit.

Investigators said stolen digital assets were being converted into Ether and warned that further laundering activity could follow.

Heist Could Be Largest Crypto Theft on Record

The attack involved more than $6.3 billion in stolen digital assets, making it potentially the largest cryptocurrency theft ever recorded.

Binance said the incident involved a compromised laptop and malicious software, with much of the theft reportedly taking place within about 20 minutes.

Around $3 Billion Located or Frozen

Binance has been working with law-enforcement agencies, blockchain companies and industry partners to trace stolen funds.

Around $3 billion in assets had been located or frozen by the end of the week as recovery efforts continued.

Deposits Continue to Operate Normally

While withdrawals were temporarily suspended as a precaution, Binance said deposit services remained operational.

The exchange said the pause allowed it to conduct enhanced security reviews, assess withdrawal infrastructure and monitor for residual risks before reopening services.

Full Investigation Report Still to Come

Binance said it will publish a detailed post-incident report once its investigation is complete.

The company is also continuing to work with law enforcement and industry partners as it attempts to recover additional assets and identify the full scope of the breach.
