NEW DELHI, September 20: Domestic LPG consumers who receive subsidised cylinders will need to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) from October 1, 2026 to continue booking refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced. Consumers who have already completed the verification do not need to take any further action.
Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory From October 1
From October 1, eligible domestic LPG consumers who have not yet completed BAA will need to authenticate their Aadhaar before receiving subsidised refills.
The government said the measure is intended to ensure that LPG subsidy benefits reach genuine eligible households while reducing duplicate or ineligible connections and diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial use.
The requirement applies specifically to subsidised domestic LPG refills, rather than meaning that LPG supply itself will be completely stopped for consumers who do not authenticate.
27.43 Crore Consumers Already Authenticated
According to the Petroleum Ministry, around 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers had already completed biometric authentication as of September 19.
This represents approximately 89.9% of active domestic LPG consumers. These customers do not need to repeat the process and can continue booking eligible refills as before.
Oil Marketing Companies have been carrying out the authentication exercise nationwide since October 2023.
Three Ways to Complete LPG Aadhaar Authentication
Consumers who have not yet completed the process have several options.
They can authenticate:
- At the time of LPG cylinder delivery, with the delivery person using the Oil Marketing Company’s mobile application
- At their LPG distributor’s showroom
- From home through the official mobile app of their LPG provider
For Indane customers, the process is available through IndianOil ONE. Bharatgas consumers can use HelloBPCL, while HP Gas customers can use the HP PAY application.
LPG Supply Will Not Be Disconnected Without Authentication
The government has clarified that consumers who do not complete biometric Aadhaar authentication will not lose access to LPG altogether.
Those who are unwilling or unable to complete BAA can register their preference through their Oil Marketing Company’s digital channels, including its website, mobile application, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS.
They will, however, have to purchase LPG without subsidy at the applicable market price, with 5-kg or 10-kg cylinders available subject to availability.
Government Says Move Will Reduce Diversion
The Petroleum Ministry said Aadhaar-linked verification is aimed at preventing subsidised domestic LPG cylinders from being diverted for commercial and industrial purposes.
It is also intended to identify duplicate and ineligible connections and make subsidy delivery more targeted and transparent.
The ministry stressed that the process is not intended to deny LPG to genuine households.
Consumers Advised to Complete Process Before Deadline
Consumers who have not yet completed BAA have been advised to finish the process before October 1 to avoid losing access to subsidised refills.
The government said Oil Marketing Companies have conducted extensive outreach, including SMS and WhatsApp communication as well as authentication camps at dealerships, high-footfall locations and rural areas.

With nearly nine in ten active domestic LPG consumers already authenticated, the October 1 deadline mainly affects customers who have yet to complete the biometric verification process.
