New Delhi, June 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a fresh weather advisory forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country over the next few days, while heatwave conditions are expected to continue in isolated areas of northern India, particularly in parts of Uttar Pradesh.
The weather department has urged residents in vulnerable regions to remain alert as intense rainfall could lead to waterlogging, flash floods, landslides, and disruption to transport services.
Heavy Rainfall Alert for Multiple States
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected in several districts as the southwest monsoon continues to advance across the country.
Flood and Landslide Risk Remains High
The IMD warned that continuous rainfall may trigger flash floods, river swelling, urban flooding, and landslides, especially in the Himalayan region and the Northeastern states.
State disaster management authorities have been advised to remain prepared, while local administrations are monitoring low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Heatwave Continues in Parts of North India
Despite active monsoon conditions across much of the country, isolated parts of eastern and western Uttar Pradesh are likely to continue experiencing heatwave conditions during daytime hours.
Health officials have advised people to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and take extra precautions for children, senior citizens, and those with underlying medical conditions.
Advisory for Travellers and Farmers
Authorities have urged travellers to check weather updates before undertaking journeys, particularly in hilly regions where landslides and road blockages are possible.
Farmers have been advised to take appropriate measures to protect standing crops from excess rainfall and ensure proper drainage in agricultural fields to prevent waterlogging.
IMD Urges Citizens to Follow Official Updates
The weather department said it will continue to monitor the progress of the southwest monsoon and issue updated forecasts as conditions evolve.
Citizens have been encouraged to follow official IMD bulletins and advisories issued by state governments to stay informed about changing weather conditions and any emergency measures.
