NEW DELHI, September 12: An AI-enabled cervical cancer screening system, advanced marine robotics, floating solar technology and rare-earth-free electric powertrains are among 37 Indian deep-tech innovations being showcased at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
The technologies are being presented at the two-day BRICS Bharat Innovates Exposition at Bharat Mandapam, organised by the Ministry of Education in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs.
AI System Targets Faster Cancer Screening
One of the key healthcare innovations on display is an AI-powered cervical cancer screening technology designed to support faster detection and assessment.
According to reports, the system can assess cervical cancer risk in less than 60 seconds, potentially helping healthcare providers identify high-risk patients more quickly and improve access to early screening.
Another healthcare-focused innovation being showcased is an AI-based maternal-fetal monitoring system, demonstrating how artificial intelligence is increasingly being used to support both diagnostic and preventive healthcare.
37 Innovations Span Multiple Sectors
The exposition is not limited to healthcare. Technologies being showcased include:
- AI-enabled cervical cancer screening
- AI-based maternal-fetal monitoring
- Floating solar photovoltaic systems
- Marine robotics
- Rare-earth-free electric powertrains
- Other deep-tech solutions developed within India’s higher-education and startup ecosystem
The exhibition highlights India’s growing focus on applying advanced technologies to healthcare, clean energy, mobility, sustainability and industrial challenges.
Rare-Earth-Free Technology in Focus
Among the notable engineering innovations is an electric powertrain that does not depend on rare-earth materials.
Rare-earth elements are widely used in electric motors and several advanced technologies, making supply-chain security an increasingly important issue globally. Developing alternatives could reduce dependence on scarce materials while supporting domestic manufacturing and clean mobility technologies.
Exposition Designed as Global Accelerator
The Bharat Innovates programme has been designed as a global accelerator for innovations emerging from Indian higher-education institutions, laboratories, research parks and startups.
Its aim is to connect Indian innovators with global companies, investors, universities, research institutes, governments and startup accelerators.
The Ministry of Education said the platform is expected to facilitate technology partnerships, investment discussions, business-to-business engagements and access to international markets.
Innovation Part of India’s BRICS Agenda
The exposition is aligned with the theme of India’s 2026 BRICS chairship — “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
It also supports one of the BRICS Education Track priorities focused on strengthening research, innovation and startup ecosystems among member countries.
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi visited the exhibition and interacted with Indian deep-tech startups and innovators. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BRICS leaders were also expected to visit the showcase during the summit.
Second Major Global Showcase This Year
The New Delhi exhibition is the second major international Bharat Innovates exposition in 2026, following an earlier showcase held in Nice, France, from June 14 to 16.
By placing deep-tech startups alongside the BRICS political and business meetings, India is seeking to use the summit not only for diplomatic engagement but also to promote its innovation ecosystem to international investors and partners.
