New Delhi, June 26: Rescue and relief operations continued across several rain-affected states on Friday as heavy monsoon showers triggered flooding, waterlogging, and landslides in multiple regions. Disaster response agencies remained on high alert, with teams deployed to assist stranded residents and monitor vulnerable areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall in several parts of the country, prompting state governments to strengthen emergency preparedness and issue public safety advisories.
NDRF and SDRF Teams Deployed
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have deployed personnel to flood-prone districts, where rescue boats, emergency equipment, and medical teams are on standby.
Authorities said priority is being given to evacuating residents from low-lying areas, providing relief materials, and ensuring access to essential services in affected villages and towns.
Flooded Roads Disrupt Normal Life
Continuous rainfall has led to waterlogging in several cities and flooding in rural areas, affecting transportation and daily life. In some locations, overflowing rivers and blocked drainage systems forced temporary road closures and traffic diversions.
Officials have urged commuters to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to follow local administration advisories.
Landslide Risk Remains High in Hilly Areas
Hilly states continue to face the threat of landslides due to saturated soil caused by persistent rainfall. Authorities are closely monitoring vulnerable slopes and highways, while road-clearing teams remain on standby to restore connectivity if required.
Residents living near landslide-prone areas have been advised to remain alert and immediately report any signs of soil movement or cracks in the ground.
Relief Camps and Emergency Services Activated
Local administrations have established temporary relief camps for families affected by flooding. Food, drinking water, medicines, and other essential supplies are being distributed through district authorities and disaster management agencies.
Health departments have also increased surveillance to prevent outbreaks of waterborne diseases in flood-affected areas.
Authorities Appeal for Public Cooperation
Officials have requested citizens to rely only on information issued by the IMD and state disaster management authorities. People have been advised not to enter flooded roads or overflowing rivers and to stay away from damaged electrical infrastructure.
Emergency control rooms have been activated in several districts to respond quickly to distress calls and coordinate rescue efforts.
With the southwest monsoon expected to remain active over the coming days, authorities said rescue teams will continue monitoring weather conditions and remain prepared to respond to any emergencies arising from heavy rainfall.
