Amit Shah Meets President Murmu, Cabinet Reshuffle Speculation Grows

New Delhi, June 26: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, triggering fresh political speculation over a possible reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers and changes within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The meeting came just two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called on the President, prompting intense discussions in political circles about an imminent reorganisation of both the Union Cabinet and the BJP’s organisational structure. However, neither Rashtrapati Bhavan nor the Union government issued an official statement regarding the agenda of Shah’s meeting.

Cabinet Reshuffle Buzz Intensifies

Political observers believe the back-to-back meetings between the country’s top leadership and the President have added momentum to speculation that the Centre may soon announce changes in the Council of Ministers.

The discussions have gained further attention following the resignation of Minister of State George Kurian after the completion of his Rajya Sabha term. The development has fueled expectations that new faces could be inducted into the Cabinet while some portfolios may also be reassigned.

BJP Organisation Also Under Review

Apart from possible ministerial changes, the BJP is also believed to be reviewing its organisational structure ahead of key Assembly elections, including the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls scheduled next year.

On Thursday, the party announced a new team of office-bearers for its Uttar Pradesh unit, a move widely seen as part of preparations to strengthen the organisation before the election campaign gathers pace. Party leaders have described the changes as an effort to improve organisational balance and expand social representation.

No Official Confirmation Yet

Despite growing speculation, the government has not confirmed that a Cabinet reshuffle is under consideration. Senior BJP leaders have also refrained from commenting publicly on reports suggesting changes in the Union Council of Ministers.

Political analysts note that meetings between the Prime Minister, senior ministers, and the President are part of the constitutional framework and do not necessarily indicate an imminent reshuffle. However, the timing of the recent meetings has kept political attention firmly focused on New Delhi.

Focus on Governance and Upcoming Elections

If a reshuffle takes place, it is expected to strengthen governance and improve political representation ahead of several important state elections. Observers believe the BJP leadership may also use the opportunity to reward strong performers and bring in new faces with regional and social representation.

The coming days are expected to be crucial as political circles continue to watch for any official announcements from the Prime Minister’s Office or the BJP leadership regarding possible organisational or ministerial changes. Until then, the discussions remain speculative, with no formal confirmation from the government.
