IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain Across India

New Delhi, July 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the southwest monsoon remains active across the country, issuing fresh warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states over the next few days. States including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka are expected to receive widespread rainfall, with localised extremely heavy showers in some regions. The weather department has advised residents and local administrations to remain alert as the active monsoon conditions are likely to continue.

According to the IMD, the enhanced monsoon activity is being driven by favourable atmospheric conditions and the presence of active weather systems over parts of central and western India.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across Multiple States

The latest forecast indicates that several regions are likely to experience persistent rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The states under heavy rainfall alerts include:

  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Rajasthan
  • Gujarat
  • Maharashtra
  • Karnataka

In addition, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa and adjoining regions may also receive moderate to heavy rainfall depending on the movement of monsoon systems.

Possibility of Waterlogging and Localised Flooding

The IMD has warned that intense rainfall may lead to:

  • Waterlogging in urban areas
  • Localised flooding in low-lying regions
  • Traffic disruptions
  • Reduced visibility during heavy showers
  • Temporary interruption of transport services

District administrations have been advised to keep disaster-response teams and emergency services on standby to deal with weather-related incidents.

Advisory for Residents

The weather department has urged people to take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Citizens have been advised to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during intense rain.
  • Stay away from flooded roads and waterlogged areas.
  • Follow official weather advisories issued by the IMD.
  • Secure loose outdoor objects during strong winds.
  • Exercise caution while driving in poor visibility conditions.

Fishermen have also been advised to follow marine weather advisories before venturing into the sea.

Agriculture Expected to Benefit

While heavy rainfall may create temporary disruptions in some areas, agricultural experts believe the active monsoon phase is expected to benefit Kharif crop cultivation in many parts of the country.

Adequate rainfall supports sowing activities and improves soil moisture, particularly for crops such as:

  • Paddy
  • Maize
  • Cotton
  • Soybean
  • Pulses

State agriculture departments continue to monitor rainfall distribution to assist farmers with timely advisories.

Disaster Management Teams on Alert

State governments and local administrations have activated disaster management mechanisms in vulnerable districts.

Authorities are monitoring river levels, drainage systems and flood-prone areas while coordinating with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local emergency agencies wherever required.

Officials said precautionary measures are being taken to minimise disruption and ensure public safety.

Monsoon Expected to Remain Active

The IMD has indicated that the southwest monsoon is likely to remain active over large parts of India during the coming days.

Weather experts expect intermittent spells of moderate to heavy rainfall across several regions as monsoon circulation continues to remain favourable.

Residents have been advised to regularly monitor official forecasts and district-level weather warnings for the latest updates.
