NEW DELHI, September 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Odisha and Chhattisgarh today, as an active weather system over the Bay of Bengal region strengthens monsoon conditions across eastern and central India.
Heavy Rain Warning Continues Today
IMD’s latest bulletin says heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in both Odisha and Chhattisgarh on September 11.
The warning follows intense rainfall activity on September 10, with conditions remaining favourable for further downpours across the region.
Low-Pressure System Driving Rainfall
The increased rainfall activity is linked to a low-pressure system over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining region.
IMD had earlier warned that the system would bring heavy to very heavy rainfall over Odisha between September 9 and 11, before the warning was expanded to include Chhattisgarh.
Waterlogging and Local Disruption Possible
Heavy spells could lead to temporary waterlogging, reduced visibility and disruption to road movement in vulnerable areas.
Residents have been advised to follow district-level warnings and avoid unnecessary travel during intense rain or thunderstorms.
Rainfall Activity May Persist
Weather conditions across eastern and central India are expected to remain unsettled as the system moves inland.
IMD is continuing to monitor the situation and issue subdivision and district-level alerts as rainfall intensity changes.
