IAS Officer Divya Mittal Resigns After 13 Years in Service, Announces Decision Today

Senior IAS officer Divya Mittal has resigned from the Indian Administrative Service after a 13-year career, announcing her decision through an emotional social media post on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Mittal is a 2013-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre and has held several important administrative positions during her career, including serving as District Magistrate of Deoria, Mirzapur and Sant Kabir Nagar.

At the time of her resignation announcement, she was serving as Special Secretary in the Revenue Department of the Uttar Pradesh government.

In her social media message, Mittal described her 13 years in public service as an unforgettable journey and said she had voluntarily decided to step away from the IAS. Her message reflected on the trust and affection she received from people during her years in administration.

She indicated that leaving the official position did not mean abandoning her larger commitment to public service, writing that while the post may end, the aspirations and purpose she developed during her years serving people would continue.

Mittal has an academic background that includes IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore. Before joining the civil services, she also worked in London before returning to India and eventually entering public administration.

During her IAS career, she became particularly known through her district-level postings in Uttar Pradesh. Her tenures in Mirzapur, Sant Kabir Nagar and Deoria brought her into direct contact with local administration, development projects and public-service delivery.

Mittal’s resignation has attracted significant attention online, partly because she has not yet publicly provided detailed information about what she plans to do next.

Her announcement suggests that she intends to begin a new chapter beyond the civil services, while continuing to remain connected with the broader ideals of public service that shaped her administrative career.

The resignation brings to a close a 13-year chapter in one of India’s most prominent civil services, although further administrative formalities regarding her departure may follow.
