DVAC Conducts Statewide Raids on Premises Linked to Former Tamil Nadu Minister K N Nehru in Alleged Cash-for-Jobs Scam

Chennai, October 29, 2026: Tamil Nadu’s Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has launched coordinated searches at several premises linked to former minister K N Nehru, his relatives and alleged associates as part of a corruption investigation into suspected cash-for-jobs transactions in municipal appointments.

The raids were conducted across multiple districts as investigators examined alleged payments made in exchange for government jobs and postings.

Searches Conducted Across Tamil Nadu

DVAC teams carried out simultaneous searches at homes, offices and other properties connected to individuals under investigation.

The operation covered locations in and around Chennai, Tiruchirappalli and other parts of the state.

Probe Linked to Municipal Recruitment

The case centres on allegations that money was collected from candidates in return for appointments or favourable treatment in municipal bodies.

Investigators are examining recruitment processes and financial transactions connected to the alleged scheme.

Premises Linked to K N Nehru Searched

Properties linked to former minister K N Nehru and people close to him were among those searched.

Authorities have not said that the searches themselves prove Nehru’s involvement, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Relatives and Associates Also Under Scanner

DVAC is also examining the role of relatives, intermediaries and officials suspected of being part of the alleged network.

Banking records, electronic devices and documents are expected to form a major part of the evidence review.

Cash-for-Jobs Allegations

The core allegation is that applicants were asked to pay money in exchange for municipal employment.

If established, such conduct could attract offences under anti-corruption law and other criminal provisions.

Documents and Digital Material Examined

Investigators searched for financial records, appointment-related documents, mobile phones, computers and other electronic evidence.

Any seized material will be analysed before further legal action is considered.

Political Reactions Intensify

The raids have triggered political reactions in Tamil Nadu, with opposition parties demanding accountability and the ruling side questioning the timing and interpretation of the searches.

The case is likely to become a major political issue as the investigation develops.

No Final Finding Yet

The investigation is still at the evidence-gathering stage.

No court has yet determined criminal responsibility, and anyone named or searched remains entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence.

Further Action Possible

DVAC may summon individuals for questioning or register additional cases if the evidence supports further action.

More details are expected once the agency completes its assessment of the material collected during the raids.
