Indian Stock Market Surges to Three-Month High as Sensex Crosses 78,700 and Nifty Tops 24,350

Mumbai, November 5, 2026: Indian stock markets witnessed a strong rally on Thursday, with the BSE Sensex crossing 78,700 and the NSE Nifty 50 rising above 24,350, as falling crude oil prices and renewed foreign investor buying boosted market sentiment. The benchmark indices climbed close to their highest levels in three months, supported by optimism following the Democratic Party’s victory in the US midterm elections.

Sensex and Nifty Record Sharp Gains

According to Reuters, the Nifty 50 rose 1.66% to 24,357.30, while the Sensex gained 1.83% to 78,719.72 by 9:18 AM IST.

The rally continued during morning trading.

By 10:28 AM IST, the Nifty had climbed 1.78% to 24,387.85, while the Sensex advanced 1.94% to 78,798.25.

Both indices were trading near three-month highs, reflecting a broad improvement in investor confidence.

Crude Oil Prices Fall Below $95

A major factor behind the stock market rally was the sharp decline in international crude oil prices.

Brent crude futures fell approximately 1% to $93.50 per barrel, after declining 8.7% in the previous trading session.

Lower crude oil prices are particularly beneficial for India because the country imports a substantial portion of its petroleum requirements.

Falling oil prices can help reduce import costs, ease inflationary pressure and improve profitability for companies dependent on fuel.

US Midterm Election Results Boost Sentiment

Global market sentiment improved following the Democratic Party’s victory in the 2026 US midterm elections.

Investors interpreted the election results as a possible indication that geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran could ease.

Hopes of reduced military tensions and improved diplomatic engagement contributed to the decline in crude oil prices.

However, the future direction of the conflict remains uncertain.

Foreign Investors Return to Indian Equities

Foreign institutional buying also supported the rally.

According to provisional market data, foreign investors purchased Indian equities worth approximately ₹7,284 crore on November 4.

This marked the fourth consecutive trading session of net foreign buying.

Foreign investment flows have improved during November, strengthening demand for Indian equities.

Banking and Financial Stocks Lead Rally

Banking and financial companies were among the strongest performers during Thursday’s trading session.

The financial services sector gained approximately 2.6%, helping lift the benchmark indices.

Investors showed renewed interest in banking stocks amid expectations of improving business conditions and stronger corporate earnings.

The rally was broad-based, with 15 of the 16 major sectors recording gains during morning trading.

IndiGo and Asian Paints Gain Sharply

Companies that benefit from lower crude oil prices recorded strong gains.

InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, rose approximately 5.3%, while Asian Paints gained around 4.2% during morning trading.

Airlines benefit when aviation fuel costs decline, while paint manufacturers can see reduced raw-material expenses because several inputs are linked to petroleum prices.

The gains reflected investor expectations that lower energy costs could support operating margins.

Sensex and Nifty Extend Winning Streak

Indian benchmark indices have rallied strongly over the past several sessions.

According to Reuters, both the Sensex and Nifty had gained nearly 8% over six trading sessions, marking their longest winning streak in approximately one year.

Despite the recent recovery, the Sensex and Nifty remained below their levels at the beginning of 2026.

The latest rally therefore represents a significant rebound rather than a complete recovery of earlier market losses.

Broader Markets Also Participate

The buying momentum extended beyond large companies.

Mid-cap and small-cap shares also advanced, indicating wider participation in the market recovery.

Strong domestic buying, foreign investment inflows and improving global sentiment contributed to the gains.

Investors Monitor Oil Prices and Global Developments

Market analysts expect crude oil prices, foreign institutional investment and geopolitical developments to remain important factors influencing Indian equities.

Any renewed escalation in West Asia could affect energy prices and investor sentiment.

Corporate earnings and domestic economic indicators will also be closely watched.

The November 5 rally highlights growing optimism in Indian equities, although market conditions remain sensitive to developments in global politics and commodity markets.
