LEH, September 28: The Ladakh Festival 2026 continues in Leh as the three-day cultural celebration showcases the Union Territory’s traditional arts, handicrafts, cuisine, music, sports and emerging tourism experiences.
The festival brings together local communities, artists, craftspeople and visitors while highlighting Ladakh’s distinctive cultural identity and promoting sustainable tourism across the region.
Three-Day Festival Celebrates Ladakh’s Cultural Identity
The festival was inaugurated at the Polo Ground in Leh, beginning a three-day programme focused on the region’s traditional lifestyle, performing arts and cultural heritage.
The event provides communities from different parts of Ladakh with a platform to showcase their traditions to visitors from India and abroad.
Nearly 1,000 Artists and Participants Join Celebrations
Nearly 1,000 artists and participants are taking part in cultural programmes, processions and performances during the festival.
The celebrations include traditional musicians, folk performers, monastic groups, horse riders, camel riders and representatives from villages and districts across the region.

A men’s exhibition match was held at the historic Shagaran Polo Ground in Chuchot, where Indus Polo Club defeated the Animal Husbandry Department team 5-2.
Tourists and local residents gathered to watch the match, which highlighted the region’s long association with equestrian sports.
Women’s Polo Also Featured
The festival also included a Women’s Polo Exhibition Match at Shagaran Ground.
The Animal Husbandry team defeated Shayok Polo Club 5-3.
Plans are also being discussed to further develop the ground for organised polo training and create opportunities for young players interested in the sport.
Handicrafts and Local Cuisine Showcase Ladakhi Heritage
A dedicated exhibition in Leh Market is showcasing Ladakh’s traditional handicrafts, handlooms and regional cuisine.
Local artisans are conducting live demonstrations of crafts including basket weaving, wood carving and pottery.
The exhibition gives visitors an opportunity to interact directly with craftspeople and learn more about traditional skills that have been passed down through generations.
Photography Exhibition Captures Changing Ladakh
Photography is another major attraction at this year’s festival.
An exhibition titled “Ladakh, Living Through the Lens” presents images documenting the landscapes, communities and cultural traditions of the region.
The collection covers more than two decades and offers visitors a visual look at how Ladakh has developed while maintaining its distinctive cultural identity.
Festival Promotes Sustainable Tourism
The festival is also being used to promote a more environmentally responsible approach to tourism.

By mid-September 2026, the region had received around 4.37 lakh tourists, surpassing the total number of visitors recorded during the whole of 2025.
The rise in visitor numbers highlights Ladakh’s growing popularity among domestic and international travellers.

The festival provides opportunities for local artisans, performers, entrepreneurs, food businesses, homestays and tourism operators.
