NEW DELHI, September 10: Security has been significantly tightened across the national capital ahead of the BRICS Summit on September 12–13, with around 30,000 security personnel deployed to protect visiting leaders and key venues.
30,000 Personnel Across Key Locations
Security arrangements cover Bharat Mandapam, Palam Air Force Station, diplomatic hotels and movement routes. Around half of the deployed personnel are from Delhi Police, while the remainder are from paramilitary forces.
The security grid has been divided into sectors, each supervised by senior police officers.
Putin Expected Friday, Xi Likely Saturday
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to arrive on September 11, while Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to arrive on September 12. Security teams from Russia and China have already reached designated hotels in Delhi.
Reuters reported that Xi is widely expected to attend, although Beijing had not formally confirmed his visit as of September 10.
Hotels and Convoy Routes Under Tight Watch
Hotel employees have undergone background verification, while special security arrangements have been made for foreign delegations.
Convoy routes to Bharat Mandapam have been finalised and rehearsed, with traffic restrictions and diversions planned across parts of Delhi during the summit period.
The summit, hosted under India’s 2026 BRICS chairship, will bring together leaders from the expanded grouping amid major global geopolitical and economic challenges.
