WASHINGTON, September 10: US President Donald Trump said he expects the war with Iran to end after the November 2026 midterm elections, while again threatening military action against Iran’s fortified Pickaxe Mountain nuclear-related site.
Trump Links War Timeline to Midterms
Trump told reporters that he believes Iran is trying to influence the US elections and predicted the conflict would end soon after voting concludes.
However, senior US officials have cautioned that the conflict could continue much longer, highlighting uncertainty over any near-term resolution.
Pickaxe Mountain Threat Renewed
Trump also warned Iran against activity at Pickaxe Mountain, a heavily fortified site near the damaged Natanz uranium enrichment facility.
He said the US could strike the location if Washington sees further concerning activity there. Iran maintains that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes.
Hormuz Fighting Keeps Oil Above $100
The remarks come amid renewed maritime attacks near the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran said it targeted 10 ships after the US sank five Iranian oil tankers.
Brent crude remained above $100 per barrel, reflecting continued fears over disruptions to Middle Eastern energy supplies.
