NEW DELHI, September 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across parts of northern, eastern and northeastern India today as a low-pressure area over central Uttar Pradesh continues to influence monsoon conditions.
Heavy Rain Alert for Several States
According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is likely today over:
- East Uttar Pradesh
- East Madhya Pradesh
- Bihar
- West Bengal and Sikkim
- Odisha
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Assam and Meghalaya
- Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura
Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and parts of the Northeast could also experience thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Low-Pressure Area Over Uttar Pradesh
The active weather is being driven by a low-pressure area over central Uttar Pradesh, along with the monsoon trough, western disturbances and cyclonic circulations over northeast Bihar and Assam.
IMD said rainfall activity is expected to remain concentrated over eastern and northeastern India, while peninsular India is likely to see comparatively subdued rainfall during the coming days.
Heavy Rain May Continue
Heavy rainfall is forecast to persist in parts of Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and the Northeast over the next few days.
Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert to local weather warnings, particularly where heavy rain may lead to waterlogging or disruption.
