Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 August 2026 launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’, a nationwide campaign aimed at mobilising young people against substance abuse and promoting a healthier, drug-free society. The initiative marks the beginning of a 100-week Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation) movement, with youth from across the country taking part through physical and virtual events.

Activities planned under the initiative include:

He said that India’s youth are the country’s greatest strength and that building a developed nation requires a generation that is healthy, disciplined, and free from addiction. The Prime Minister emphasised that social participation is essential to making the campaign successful.

Government’s Long-Term Vision

Officials said the campaign seeks to:

  • Raise awareness about substance abuse.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles.
  • Encourage youth leadership.
  • Strengthen community participation.
  • Support the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The government expects educational institutions and civil society organisations to play a central role in sustaining the movement over the coming months.
