HCLTech to Invest ₹3,500 Crore in AI Data Centres

HCLTech has announced an investment of up to ₹3,500 crore to establish AI-focused data centres in India, marking its entry into the AI infrastructure business as demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing continues to grow. The investment, announced alongside the company’s first-quarter financial results, is aimed at building scalable infrastructure to support enterprises and government organisations adopting AI-driven technologies.

According to the company, the proposed AI data centres will have the potential to scale up to 50 megawatts (MW) of capacity. The investment will be made through a newly formed subsidiary and related entities dedicated to the data centre business. HCLTech said the initiative will complement its existing capabilities in AI cloud operations, DevOps, software solutions, and data centre design, enabling it to offer end-to-end AI services.

The company said growing demand for sovereign AI infrastructure, digital transformation, and advanced computing has created a significant opportunity to expand beyond traditional IT services. HCLTech aims to position itself as a full-stack AI technology provider by combining AI infrastructure with software, cloud, and managed services.

The announcement came as HCLTech reported stronger-than-expected financial results for the first quarter of FY2026-27. The company posted record quarterly deal bookings worth $2.4 billion, while maintaining its full-year revenue growth guidance. Analysts said the AI data centre investment represents a long-term strategic move that could strengthen HCLTech’s position in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.

Industry experts believe demand for AI-ready infrastructure will continue to rise as businesses increasingly deploy generative AI applications, machine learning models, and high-performance computing workloads. India’s growing digital economy and government initiatives supporting AI adoption are also expected to drive investment in advanced data centre capacity.

With this investment, HCLTech joins a growing number of technology companies expanding AI infrastructure to meet future computing requirements. The project is expected to enhance India’s AI capabilities while supporting enterprise innovation, digital sovereignty, and next-generation technology development.
