Pune Moshi Collapse Rescue Continues

Pune, July 11: Multi-agency rescue teams continued intensive operations at the site of the tragic building collapse at the Waste-to-Energy plant in Moshi, Pimpri Chinchwad, near Pune, as efforts remained focused on locating workers trapped beneath the debris and a massive mound of waste. The collapse, triggered after a huge garbage mound slid onto the administrative building during heavy monsoon rains, has become one of Maharashtra’s most serious industrial disasters this monsoon season.

The operation entered its fourth day with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire services, police, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and other emergency agencies working continuously despite unstable debris, rain and hazardous conditions.

Rescue Operation Continues Around the Clock

Heavy earth-moving machinery, cranes and specialised rescue equipment have been deployed to carefully remove debris without endangering those who may still be trapped.

Officials said the rescue mission remains challenging because of:

  • Unstable building debris
  • Large heaps of municipal waste
  • Continuous rainfall
  • Limited visibility in some areas
  • Risk of further structural movement

Emergency responders are proceeding cautiously while searching every section of the collapsed structure.

Authorities Monitor Situation Closely

Senior state officials and civic authorities have been regularly reviewing rescue operations and coordinating resources to speed up the search effort.

Medical teams and ambulances remain stationed near the site to provide immediate assistance whenever victims are recovered.

Authorities have assured families of those trapped that every possible effort is being made to complete rescue operations safely and as quickly as possible.

Investigation Underway

Officials have also initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

The inquiry will examine:

  • Structural safety of the building
  • Impact of heavy rainfall
  • Waste management practices
  • Compliance with safety protocols
  • Possible administrative lapses

The Maharashtra government has indicated that appropriate action will be taken if negligence is established.

Monsoon Raises Safety Concerns

The incident has renewed concerns over infrastructure safety during the active southwest monsoon.

Experts note that prolonged heavy rainfall can increase pressure on slopes, waste mounds and retaining structures, making continuous monitoring and preventive maintenance essential.

Disaster management authorities have urged civic bodies across the country to inspect vulnerable infrastructure during the ongoing monsoon season.

Support for Families

Local authorities have arranged assistance for affected families, while counsellors and support teams remain available at the site.

Community organisations have also come forward to provide food, drinking water and other essential support for rescue workers and relatives waiting near the disaster zone.

Rescue Teams Receive Appreciation

The dedication of rescue personnel working continuously under difficult weather conditions has been widely appreciated.

Teams from multiple agencies have coordinated closely, using specialised equipment and technical expertise to maximise the chances of locating survivors while ensuring responder safety.

Looking Ahead

Officials stated that rescue efforts will continue until every missing person has been accounted for.

The tragedy has highlighted the importance of strict infrastructure safety standards, effective waste management and disaster preparedness during the monsoon season.

Authorities have appealed to the public to avoid the rescue zone and rely only on official updates regarding the operation.
