PM Narendra Modi Begins Three-Nation Tour to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand

New Delhi, July 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a six-day, three-nation official visit to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 6 to July 11, aimed at deepening India’s strategic partnerships, expanding economic engagement, and strengthening cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region. In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said the visit would reinforce India’s Act East Policy, advance the MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) Vision, and promote a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

Indonesia First Stop of the Visit

The Prime Minister will begin his tour in Indonesia, where he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, with emphasis on defence cooperation, maritime security, trade, connectivity, healthcare, digital technology, and cultural exchanges. Both leaders are also expected to review progress on ongoing bilateral initiatives and regional cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

Australia Visit to Boost Strategic Partnership

Following Indonesia, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Australia for high-level meetings with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The agenda includes enhancing collaboration in defence, critical minerals, clean energy, education, innovation, space technology, cyber security, and resilient supply chains.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss expanding trade and investment while reviewing progress under the India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Historic Visit to New Zealand

The final leg of the tour will take the Prime Minister to New Zealand, marking the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in nearly four decades. During the visit, Mr. Modi will meet Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to strengthen cooperation in trade, agriculture, education, tourism, technology, renewable energy, and people-to-people exchanges.

The leaders are also expected to discuss implementation of the recently concluded India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement and ways to expand bilateral economic cooperation.

Focus on Trade, Security and Indo-Pacific Cooperation

Throughout the three-nation tour, discussions will centre on strengthening economic partnerships, maritime security, regional stability, critical and emerging technologies, defence collaboration, and sustainable development. The visit also reflects India’s growing diplomatic engagement with key partners across the Indo-Pacific region under its Act East Policy.

Prime Minister Modi will interact with members of the Indian diaspora in all three countries, acknowledging their important role in strengthening bilateral relations.

Strengthening India’s Global Engagement

Officials said the visit is expected to further enhance India’s strategic presence in the Indo-Pacific while opening new opportunities for trade, investment, technology cooperation, and cultural exchanges. The outcomes of the tour are likely to reinforce India’s partnerships with three important regional democracies and contribute to a stable, prosperous, and rules-based Indo-Pacific.
