IMD Forecasts Active Southwest Monsoon Over Central India; Very Heavy Rainfall Likely for Next 4–5 Days

New Delhi, July 5: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the southwest monsoon will remain in an active phase over central India during the next four to five days, bringing very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to several states. The weather agency has advised state governments, local administrations, and residents to remain alert as widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected to affect many regions.

According to the IMD, the active monsoon conditions are likely to improve rainfall distribution across the country while increasing the risk of waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas.

States Likely to Receive Heavy Rainfall

The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Odisha, Telangana, Goa, and parts of Karnataka, with isolated places likely to experience very heavy rainfall.

Several districts may also witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong surface winds.

Authorities Advised to Stay Prepared

The weather department has urged state disaster management authorities and district administrations to closely monitor weather conditions and remain prepared for any emergencies arising from heavy rainfall.

Local authorities have been advised to keep disaster-response teams, rescue equipment, and emergency services ready in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.

Public Advisory

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, stay away from waterlogged roads and swollen rivers, and follow weather updates issued by the IMD and local administrations.

People living in low-lying areas have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities if evacuation becomes necessary.

Benefits for Agriculture

The continued active phase of the southwest monsoon is expected to provide much-needed moisture for Kharif crops, supporting sowing activities and improving agricultural prospects in several regions.

Agricultural experts believe widespread rainfall during July is crucial for crops such as paddy, soybean, maize, cotton, pulses, and sugarcane.

IMD Continues Weather Monitoring

The IMD said it will continue to monitor the progress of the monsoon and issue regular forecasts and warnings based on evolving weather conditions. Citizens are encouraged to rely only on official weather bulletins and advisories for accurate information.

The department has also advised fishermen along affected coastal regions to follow marine weather warnings before venturing into the sea.
