Mumbai, July 4: The Maharashtra Government has deployed emergency response teams across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and other coastal districts as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to warn of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall associated with the active southwest monsoon. Disaster-response units, civic agencies, and district administrations have been placed on high alert to respond swiftly to any rain-related emergencies.
The precautionary measures come as the IMD forecasts intense rainfall, strong winds, and the possibility of waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas over the next few days.
Disaster Response Teams on Standby
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire brigade personnel, police, and municipal emergency teams have been strategically deployed across sensitive locations to ensure a rapid response to any incidents.
Authorities have also positioned rescue boats, emergency equipment, and relief materials in flood-prone areas to minimise response time if evacuation becomes necessary.
Civic Agencies Intensify Preparedness
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and district administrations have activated emergency control rooms and intensified efforts to clean storm-water drains, monitor low-lying areas, and inspect vulnerable infrastructure.
Officials are keeping a close watch on rivers, reservoirs, and coastal zones while coordinating with weather agencies for real-time updates.
Public Advisory Issued
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, stay away from flooded roads and waterlogged underpasses, and follow official advisories issued by local authorities.
Commuters have also been cautioned about possible disruptions to road, suburban rail, and air services due to heavy rain and reduced visibility.
Fishermen Warned Against Venturing into the Sea
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea along the Maharashtra coast due to rough sea conditions and strong winds. Coastal communities have been asked to remain alert until weather conditions improve.
Authorities are continuously monitoring sea conditions and will issue further advisories if required.
Government Monitoring the Situation
Senior officials are reviewing the situation on a regular basis and have directed all concerned departments to remain prepared for any emergency. The state government has appealed to citizens to remain calm, cooperate with local authorities, and rely only on official weather bulletins for accurate information.
The deployment of emergency teams reflects Maharashtra’s proactive approach to ensuring public safety during the peak monsoon season.
