New Delhi, June 24, 2026: India has said that its relationship with China is continuing to move toward normalization, following high-level discussions between senior officials of the two countries on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting held in New Delhi.
The development comes as both Asian powers seek to improve diplomatic engagement after years of tensions that emerged following the border clashes in eastern Ladakh in 2020. Officials from both sides acknowledged progress in bilateral relations and expressed support for maintaining dialogue on key issues.
Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during the BRICS security meeting, where both leaders reviewed recent developments in bilateral ties. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions were constructive and focused on strengthening mutual understanding and expanding cooperation in areas of common interest.
During the meeting, both sides noted progress toward the gradual normalization of relations and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability along the border. The discussions also covered regional security, economic cooperation, and the resumption of various bilateral dialogue mechanisms.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reportedly called for accelerating exchanges in trade, finance, media, and law enforcement cooperation while encouraging both nations to properly manage sensitive issues and respect each other’s core interests.
Relations between India and China have shown signs of improvement since 2024, following a series of diplomatic and military engagements aimed at reducing tensions along the disputed border. Both countries have also taken steps to restore people-to-people exchanges and improve communication channels.
Analysts believe that continued dialogue between New Delhi and Beijing is essential for regional stability and economic growth. As two of Asia’s largest economies, both countries play a significant role in global trade, supply chains, and international diplomacy.
Despite progress, experts note that several complex issues remain unresolved, including the long-standing boundary dispute and strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific region. However, recent diplomatic engagements indicate a willingness on both sides to manage differences through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The normalization process is also expected to benefit trade and business relations, which have remained substantial despite political tensions. Industry leaders and investors are closely monitoring developments, as improved bilateral ties could create new opportunities for economic cooperation.
As India and China continue diplomatic engagement through forums such as BRICS and other multilateral platforms, policymakers on both sides are expected to pursue measures that strengthen trust and maintain stability in the relationship.
