India vs Australia: Jasprit Bumrah Is New Captain Of Sydney Test

Jasprit Bumrah

The Indian team will play the final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3. In this match, there is a big change in the playing 11 of Team India. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team in Rohit Sharma’s absence. India had won the first Test in Perth by 295 runs. Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy from the second Test, but the team lost two out of three matches, while one match was drawn.

Rohit Sharma has opted out of the Sydney Test. According to media reports, he informed the decision to the head coach, team management, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, which was accepted by all. Rohit’s decision indicates that the Melbourne Test could be his last. The Indian team is unlikely to reach the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25. The next Test series will be played in England between June-August 2025, and considering the future plans, Rohit’s return to the Test team looks difficult.

With Rohit Sharma ruled out, Shubman Gill is set to return to the playing 11. He did not play in the Melbourne Test. In the Sydney Test, Gill will get a chance to play at No. 3. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the innings for India. Also, another change that is certain is the inclusion of Prasidh Krishna in place of unfit bowler Akash Deep. With these changes, the Indian team will try to perform better in the last match of the series. The Sydney Test match will be crucial for the Indian team in terms of not only winning the series but also preparing the team for the future. All eyes will be on Jasprit Bumrah’s captaincy and Shubman Gill’s return.
