New Delhi, July 4: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule for India’s upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, with both matches set to be played in August 2026 as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle. The series will mark India’s first Test tour of Sri Lanka since 2017, when the visitors completed a memorable 3-0 whitewash under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.
According to the schedule released by the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the opening Test will be played at the Galle International Stadium from 15 to 19 August, while the second and final Test will be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), Colombo, from 23 to 27 August. Both matches will begin at 10:00 AM IST.
Crucial World Test Championship Assignment
The two-match series carries significant importance for both teams in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2025–27. Valuable WTC points will be at stake as India and Sri Lanka look to strengthen their positions in the standings ahead of a busy international calendar.
Return to Sri Lanka After Nine Years
India will return to Sri Lanka for a Test series after nearly nine years, having last toured the island nation in the longest format in 2017. On that occasion, India registered a comprehensive 3-0 series victory, making this tour an eagerly anticipated contest for both sides.
Key Fixtures
The official schedule is as follows:
- 1st Test: 15–19 August 2026 – Galle International Stadium, Galle
- 2nd Test: 23–27 August 2026 – Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), Colombo
Both matches are scheduled to start at 10:00 AM IST.
India Eye Strong WTC Campaign
The series is expected to be an important challenge for the Indian team as they continue their campaign in the World Test Championship. Sri Lankan conditions traditionally favour spin bowling, making the contest a significant test of India’s batting and bowling combinations.
Cricket experts believe the tour will play a key role in shaping both teams’ prospects of qualifying for the WTC Final.
Fans Await an Exciting Contest
With two competitive Test-playing nations set to face each other, fans can expect high-quality cricket featuring some of the world’s leading batters, spinners, and fast bowlers. The series is also expected to draw significant attention from cricket enthusiasts across the globe.
