New Delhi, October 22, 2026: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has summoned Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde for questioning today in connection with the Jantar Mantar trespassing case. The development comes barely a day after Das and Ranka were released from Tihar Jail.
The three leaders have been asked to appear at the Crime Branch’s Rajouri Garden office as investigators continue probing the circumstances surrounding their alleged entry into Jantar Mantar during a protest.
Crime Branch Summons Three CJP Leaders
According to Delhi Police sources, Das, Ranka and Shinde have been issued notices asking them to join the investigation.
Das and Ranka were asked to report to the Crime Branch office by noon on Thursday, while Shinde has also been called for questioning in the same case.
Case Linked to Jantar Mantar Protest
The investigation relates to an October 13 protest at Jantar Mantar, where CJP leaders allegedly entered the area despite restrictions.
Police allege that Das and Ranka climbed over barricades and entered the protest site while prohibitory measures were in place.
Protest Was Over CEC Gyanesh Kumar
The CJP leaders had gathered to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The protest became controversial after the leaders allegedly entered the Jantar Mantar area despite restrictions imposed at the site.
Das and Ranka Released From Tihar Jail
The fresh summons came shortly after Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released from Tihar Jail on October 21.
A Special Executive Magistrate ordered their release after accepting personal and surety bonds of ₹50,000 each and written undertakings that they would maintain peace and comply with legal requirements.
Undertaking Given to Maintain Peace
As part of their release conditions, the two leaders reportedly agreed not to breach public peace or participate in protests at Jantar Mantar until permitted under law.
They also undertook to appear for future hearings and cooperate with legal proceedings.
Crime Branch Recently Took Over Investigation
The case was transferred to the Delhi Police Crime Branch after initially being handled by the local police.
The transfer expanded the scope of the investigation and placed the matter before a specialised unit tasked with examining the alleged trespassing and related violations.
Police Probe Alleged Violation of Government Orders
Investigators are examining allegations involving non-compliance with government orders and unauthorised entry into the protest site.
The Crime Branch is expected to question the leaders about how the protest was organised, who coordinated the action and whether there was prior planning behind the entry into Jantar Mantar.
Fresh Summons Renew Political Row
The summons have triggered renewed political attention because they were issued shortly after Das and Ranka walked out of jail.
CJP leaders and supporters have criticised the police action, while authorities maintain that the summons are part of the continuing investigation.
Ajinkya Shinde Also Called for Questioning
Ajinkya Shinde, another CJP leader connected to the protest, has also been summoned by the Crime Branch.
His questioning could help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the roles played by different participants during the protest.
Investigation Continues
The Delhi Police Crime Branch is expected to continue questioning the three leaders and examining available video footage, witness accounts and other material connected to the protest.
Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and compliance by those summoned.
