Vaikuntha Ekadashi is one of the most important days in the Hindu calendar. It is also known as Mokshada Ekadashi. This year, the holy festival of Vaikuntha Ekadashi 2025 will be celebrated on January 10. This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that this leads to the Vaikuntha Dwara, which gives salvation to the devotees.
Significance of Vaikuntha Ekadashi
It is believed that by observing a fast on Vaikuntha Ekadashi and worshipping Lord Vishnu, one gets rid of sins and gets a place in Vaikuntha. This day is also considered as the opening of the gate of heaven, in which devotees in particular receive salvation by the blessings of the Lord.
Worship method
The worship method of Vaikuntha Ekadashi includes some special rules and rituals, which devotees can perform with reverence and devotion:
- Bathing and cleansing: On this day, wake up early in the morning, take a bath with Ganga water and wear clean clothes.
- Sankalp: Light a lamp in front of Lord Vishnu and take a vow to fast.
- Fasting: There is no fasting on this day. Fruits, milk and water can be consumed. Some devotees also observe a fast.
- Worship Lord Vishnu: Offer yellow flowers, tulsi dal, fruits and panchamrit in front of the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu. Recite the Vishnu Sahasranamam and sing the hymns of Vishnu.
- Night Awakening: Waking up at night is considered very beneficial on this day. Devotees offer prayers in temples or at their homes.
- Daan-Punya: After the end of the fast, it is considered auspicious to donate food and clothes to the poor and needy.

According to an ancient legend associated with this holy day, once King Rukmangada fasted on Vaikuntha Ekadashi for the welfare of his subjects. By the effect of his fast, happiness, peace and prosperity prevailed in the entire state. It is believed that worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day brings prosperity and happiness to the devotees.
