According to the WHO, if not treated in time, Marburg virus can be fatal for 88 percent of people infected with Marburg virus. Its symptoms include fever, muscle aches, diarrhea, vomiting, and in severe cases, death from excessive bleeding. Currently, there is no approved treatment or vaccine for Marburg virus. The risk assessment for the suspected outbreak in Tanzania is high at the national and regional level, but low at the global level, the WHO said. There was no immediate reaction from Tanzanian health authorities.

The first case of Marburg was found in Rwanda The first outbreak of Marburg was reported in Rwanda on September 27, which was officially announced on December 20.
