Former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh died on Thursday at the age of 92. Today, on Saturday, his last rites will be performed with full state honors at 11.45 am at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi. Meanwhile, like other former Prime Ministers, efforts have started to build a memorial site for Manmohan Singh as well. Let us tell you that usually the memorials of most former Prime Ministers are built near Rajghat. Near Rajghat, memorials of many former Prime Ministers of the country like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Charan Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Chandrashekhar are built. Rajghat is the Samadhi Sthal of Mahatma Gandhi.
Home Ministry confirmed the construction of the memorial site
Well, in the meantime, the Central Government and Congress were face to face regarding the memorial of Dr. Manmohan Singh. In fact, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that former Prime Minister Singh’s last rites be performed at a place where a memorial could be built. Initially, the government was reluctant but now the government has agreed to it. The Home Ministry itself has confirmed this and said that in a press release issued late night under the title Facts regarding the memorial of former Prime Minister late Dr. Manmohan Singh, the ministry said that “The government has received a request from Congress chief Kharge to allocate space for Singh’s memorial. The government will allocate space for Manmohan Singh’s memorial. His family and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge have been informed about this.”
BJP deliberately insulted the country’s first Sikh Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh
If seen in this way, now Manmohan Singh will also have a memorial like Nehru, Indira and Atal. Well, meanwhile, after the cabinet meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed Kharge and Manmohan Singh’s family that the government will allocate space for the memorial. The Home Ministry said that “the trust has to be formed and the place has to be allotted. In the meantime, Manmohan Singh’s last rites and other formalities can be completed.” In fact, the Congress had accused the central government and said that “the government’s inability to find a place for the funeral and memorial of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is a deliberate insult to India’s first Sikh Prime Minister.” However, the government has said that Manmohan Singh’s memorial will be built but where it will be built has not been decided yet. A committee will be formed for this.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmishtha Mukherjee criticized Congress’ demand
Meanwhile, India’s former President Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmishtha Mukherjee has strongly criticized Congress for this demand. Shamishtha has written a post on the social media platform X and claimed that “when her father and former President of the country Pranab Mukherjee died in 2020, the Congress leadership did not even bother to call a condolence meeting by the Congress Working Committee. Sharmistha has also accused the Congress leadership of misleading her on this issue at that time.” According to Sharmistha’s claim, a senior Congress leader had told her that “there has been no tradition of calling a condolence meeting by the party’s CWC on the demise of the Presidents of India.” Sharmistha Mukherjee refuted the argument of the Congress leaders and said that “she has come to know from her father’s diaries that a meeting of the CWC was called on the demise of another former President. During that time, the draft of the condolence message was prepared by her father Pranab Mukherjee himself.
