Every year on March 8, International Women’s Day is celebrated, which symbolizes the rights, achievements and empowerment of women. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the countrymen. To make Women’s Day even more special this time, PM Modi gave nuclear scientist Elena Mishra and space scientist Shilpi Soni the opportunity to handle their social media accounts. The two women scientists shared their views on science, technology and women empowerment. “India is one of the most exciting places for science and innovation. We encourage more and more women to come forward in the field of science.”
Alina Mishra
Alina Mishra, a resident of Bhubaneswar (Odisha), is working at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Mumbai. He attributed his success to his family and how his father instilled in him an interest in science. “My dream of working in the field of nuclear science came true by joining the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. “
Alina has contributed to important work related to the Low Energy High Intensity Proton Accelerator (LEHIPA). He was instrumental in India’s partnership with Chicago-based Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and induction of indigenously developed magnets in the 800 MeV Proton Improvement Plan (PIP-II) project. In addition, he also contributed to the development of cryo-free, lightweight and portable medical devices to improve health services in rural areas. “It is a matter of pride to see that science and technology can improve not only research but also the lives of common people. “
Shilpi Soni
Shilpi Soni is a resident of Sagar in Madhya Pradesh. He has contributed to more than 35 communication and navigation missions in his 24 years tenure at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He has also served in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). “It was a dream come true for me to work at ISRO. “There are no boundaries in ISRO, it provides equal opportunities for all. Having the opportunity to solve challenges through innovation is a wonderful experience. “
Shilpi mentioned a major achievement regarding self-reliance in space technology. He informed that India has successfully developed the space travelling wave tube technology indigenously, which only a few countries had so far. She is currently serving as the Associate Project Director of the GSAT- 22/23 communication payload project. “It was a proud moment for me to witness the launch of the spacecraft in which I contributed along with my team. “

Unlimited Opportunities for Women in Science and Technology
Both Elena Mishra and Shilpi Soni expressed happiness over the increasing participation of women in the field of science and technology. “The world of science and technology is full of infinite possibilities. When the technologies and systems developed by us work successfully, it is difficult to describe in words the satisfaction and pride one feels. She also appealed to other women to take up opportunities to pursue careers in science, innovation and research.
Elina Mishra and Shilpi Soni’s interaction with PM Modi’s social media account on International Women’s Day shows that women in India are now playing a leading role in the field of science and technology as well. These two scientists are not only doing commendable work in their fields but are also inspiring the women of the coming generation.
The increasing participation of women in institutions like ISRO and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre proves that women are no longer behind in any field. Their contribution reflects the strength of ‘Nari Shakti “and a bright future.
On this Women’s Day, let us take a pledge to encourage women to move forward in science, technology and other fields so that they can realize their dreams and play an important role in the development of the nation.
