An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale has hit Tibet. Earlier, a 6.8 -magnitude earthquake hit the Tibetan city of Shigaze on Tuesday, killing at least 53 people and injuring 62 others. According to the Regional Disaster Relief Headquarters, the earthquake was felt in Dingri county of Shigaze at 9:05 am (China time) on Tuesday.
The epicentre of the earthquake was in Shijang
The 6.8 -magnitude quake killed 53 people and injured 62, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake measured 7.1 on the Richter scale. According to the USGS, the epicentre was in Shijang in Tingri county, which is located about 90 km from Lobutse in the Khumbu Himalayan region of northeast Nepal. However, China recorded its magnitude at 6.8. According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km, Xinhua reported.
Tremors were also felt in Nepal
Meanwhile, tremors were also felt in Nepal’s Kathmandu, prompting people to rush out of their homes. The impact of the quake was also felt in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Dhading and Solukhumbu districts. Panic-stricken people took to the streets in Kathmandu, and trees and power lines were seen swaying for some time. Around 7 a.m., at least six aftershocks with four to five magnitudes were felt within an hour, the USGS reported. The tremors reminded people of the massive earthquake of 2015 that killed more than 9,000 people.

No casualties were reported in Nepal
A Nepal Police spokesman said there were no reports of any major damage or human casualty so far. According to spokesman Bishwo Adhikari, as the epicentre of the earthquake was in Tibet, people living in northern Nepal felt the tremors of greater intensit.
