The district administration in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, remained on high alert on Sunday, August 30, as the swollen Mandakini River continued to create flood-like conditions across several low-lying areas.
Among the worst-affected locations are Ram Ghat and Nirmohi Akhada, where rising river water has inundated surrounding areas and disrupted normal movement.
Chitrakoot Police have deployed drone cameras to monitor flood-hit zones, assess conditions on the ground and closely track the movement and flow of the Mandakini River.
The administration has intensified precautionary measures as water levels remain elevated, while officials continue monitoring vulnerable areas for any further deterioration.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are carrying out rescue operations, helping stranded pilgrims and local residents move from river-side and flood-affected areas to safer locations.
District officials said rescue personnel are working continuously to ensure the safety of people in affected neighbourhoods.
The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police personally inspected relief and rescue operations, while food, medicines and other essential supplies were delivered to affected and stranded residents.
Authorities have urged people to stay away from the Mandakini River and nearby ghats and strictly follow safety instructions until water levels recede.
Despite the flood-like conditions, the District Magistrate said the situation currently remains under control, with disaster-response teams and local authorities maintaining constant surveillance.
The wider Chitrakoot-Satna region has witnessed severe flooding following heavy rainfall. Rescue operations have also been underway in adjoining parts of Madhya Pradesh, where hundreds of people have been moved to safety.
Officials remain on alert as the administration continues monitoring weather conditions and the Mandakini River for any further rise in water levels.
