Many Dalit and tribal organizations had called for Bharat Bandh on 21st August i.e. today, in protest against the Supreme Court’s decision to make sub-classification and creamy layer in SC-ST reservation. Many political parties also supported this band. The effect of this bandh was seen in many states of the country, while in some the situation remained normal. The maximum effect of this bandh was seen in Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, and Rajasthan. There was a lot of ruckus during ‘Bharat Bandh’ in these states. Road and train traffic was disrupted in many districts of Bihar. The situation worsened so much that the police had to resort to a lathi-charge.
The mixed effect of the bandh was seen in Jharkhand, UP, and Rajasthan
Whereas the effect of the bandh was mixed in Jharkhand, UP, and Rajasthan. In UP, BSP, SP, and Azad Samaj Party workers protested by blocking roads in many places. In various districts of Jharkhand, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Bhim Army along with other organizations closed the roads and shops. Similarly, in Rajasthan also, various organizations took out anger rallies and tried to close the markets. During this time, schools and colleges also remained closed in many districts. However, the effect of this Bharat bandh was not seen in states like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh.
This is the demand of those calling for Bharat Bandh
Let us tell you that a bench of seven judges of the Supreme Court has recently adopted the opposite view while hearing the issue of reservation. This decision of the court talks about giving reservation in the reservation, which is being called a creamy layer. Various Dalit and tribal organizations are opposing this decision of the court. These organizations demand that the court should reject this decision. Because it will end the constitutional rights given to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Opposition is spreading confusion among people- Union Law Minister
At the same time, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said in a conversation with the media, “There are two parts of the Supreme Court’s order on SC, ST reservation. One part is of a creamy layer and the other is of sub-classification. Out of these two subjects, the Supreme Court has given only observation in the creamy layer. Which cannot be considered a part of the decision. On the other hand, for the second part, the Supreme Court said that if the states want, they can do sub-classification in reservation. The opposition people are deliberately spreading confusion on this subject.
