Data released by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) showed net direct tax revenue rising 12.96% compared with the same period last year.
Net collections increased to approximately ₹12.12 lakh crore, reflecting higher receipts from corporate tax, non-corporate tax and securities transactions.

Before accounting for tax refunds, gross direct tax collections stood at more than ₹14.32 lakh crore, up 15.19% year-on-year.

The increase indicates stronger tax receipts during the first five-and-a-half months of FY2026-27.
Corporate Tax Collection Jumps Nearly 19.5%
Net corporate tax collections recorded strong growth during the period.
Corporate tax revenue rose approximately 19.48% to ₹5.56 lakh crore, compared with around ₹4.65 lakh crore during the same period last year.

Non-corporate taxes continue to account for a significant share of India’s overall direct tax revenue.
Securities Transaction Tax Collection Surges 53%
The Securities Transaction Tax (STT) recorded one of the strongest increases among major tax categories.
Net STT collections jumped around 53% to ₹40,214 crore, compared with approximately ₹26,306 crore during the corresponding period last year.
STT is levied on specified transactions involving shares, derivatives and other securities traded on recognised exchanges.

Advance tax collections also showed strong growth.
Advance tax receipts increased 16.18% to around ₹5.22 lakh crore as of September 17.

Tax Refunds Rise 29% to ₹2.20 Lakh Crore
The government also issued significantly higher tax refunds during the period.
Refunds increased 29.19% year-on-year to more than ₹2.20 lakh crore between April 1 and September 17.
