The case was being taken to Badlapur for investigation
Akshay Shinde, who was killed in a police encounter, was accused of r**ing two girls, aged 4 and 5, of a school in August. The accused was arrested in the month of August. “Accused Akshay Shinde, who is lodged in Taloja jail, was being taken to Badlapur to investigate the case. As soon as the police vehicle reached Mumbra bypass, the accused Shinde saw the opportunity and snatched the revolver of a policeman. When the police team reached the spot, the accused opened fire at an assistant police inspector (ASI) and injured him. After this, the police retaliated and in the firing, the accused was seriously injured.”
Congress leader questioned encounter
Reacting to the Badlapur incident, Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan said, “Police stories are constantly changing, which creates suspicion. It was first stated by the police that the accused tried to commit suicide, then the statement came that it was an encounter. It is now being said that the accused was attacking the police.”Chavan asked, “Whose encounter is it? Encounters take place between underworld gangsters and terrorists. But looking at this Matter, it seems that perhaps the Thane police are trying to save someone who is in a high position. It’s a very serious matter. I think the High Court should take suo motu cognizance of the matter and immediately order an inquiry into the incident.”
