Not Just Gandhi and Nehru: Meet the Other Heroes of India’s Independence

People often talk about Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru when they talk about the Indian freedom fight. It is true that Gandhi and Nehru made important historical contributions, but this fight is not just about them. A lot of other leaders and revolutionaries have also made important contributions to the story of Indian freedom.

Bhagat Singh and his friends

Indian youth were filled with a strong desire for freedom by revolutionary leaders such as Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru. In the Indian freedom fight, Bhagat Singh used violence, but his goal was to make society free and fair. In 1929, he fought against British rule by setting off a bomb in Delhi’s Central Assembly. The freedom movement went in a new direction because of what these revolutionaries gave up.

Subhas Chandra Bose and Azad Hind Fauj

India got a lot of new energy from Subhash Chandra Bose’s motto, “Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azadi dunga.” He formed the Azad Hind Fauj with help from Germany and Japan as he fought against British rule. Bose thought that the only way to get independence was through armed fighting, not peaceful protests. His army fought the British army on many fronts, which made British control unstable.

The coming together of independent states under Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel did a great job of bringing India together after it got its freedom. He was very important in making India a strong country because he brought together more than 565 independent states into the Indian Union. Indian politics would not be the same today without Patel’s smarts and hard work.

The involvement of women

People have often forgotten how important women were in India’s fight for independence. Some of the women who fought against British rule were Sarojini Naidu, Aruna Asaf Ali, Kasturba Gandhi, and Usha Mehta. Secret radio broadcasts by Usha Mehta during the Quit India cause in 1942 helped the freedom cause.

Other Heroes Not Seen

Heros like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Bipin Chandra Pal were also very important in the fight for freedom. Without their help, the Indian freedom fight would not be complete. The phrase “Swaraj is my birthright” by Tilak made Indians even more determined to be free.

There were millions of heroes in the Indian freedom fight who gave their lives and fought to free the country. It wasn’t just Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. We should remember all of these heroes and be grateful for what they did. Every single person made a big difference in the fight for freedom, and that will never be forgotten. Bharat  Mata Ki Jai
