As early as 1973, Sushma Swaraj began working as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of India. She quickly joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad because she was deeply interested in politics. During the turbulent 1970s, she played a key part in this group. Through her work as an important part of George Fernandes’s civil defense team, she became a strong voice against dictatorship. After the Emergency, she quickly became a strong national leader after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
