NEW DELHI, October 3: Admiral **Samuel J. Paparo, Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, arrived in India on Saturday for an official visit aimed at strengthening the India-US Major Defence Partnership and expanding military-to-military cooperation. His visit will run from October 3 to October 8.
Talks With Indian Defence Leadership
During his stay, Admiral Paparo is scheduled to meet senior officials from India’s Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces.
The discussions will focus on shared security priorities and ways to deepen defence cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
Emerging Technologies High on Agenda
Digital transformation and emerging critical technologies will be important areas of discussion.
India and the United States are exploring how advanced technologies can support defence preparedness, military interoperability and future operational capabilities.
Maritime Security Remains Key Focus
Maritime security will be another major component of the talks.
Both countries have emphasised cooperation aimed at maintaining security and stability across the Indo-Pacific and protecting strategically important maritime routes.
Regional Strategic Stability to Be Discussed
The two sides are also expected to discuss the wider security environment in the Indo-Pacific.
Maintaining regional strategic stability remains an important area of engagement between the Indian and US defence establishments.
Defence Energy Resilience on Agenda
Another subject expected to feature in the discussions is defence energy resilience.
The issue focuses on ensuring military operations and infrastructure can continue functioning reliably despite disruptions to energy supplies or changing security conditions.
Second India Visit This Year
This is Paparo’s second visit to India in 2026.
During his previous visit in February, he held meetings with senior Indian defence officials and discussed regional security and military interoperability across multiple domains.
India-US Defence Partnership Expands
India and the United States have continued to expand cooperation through military exercises, technology partnerships and regular exchanges between their armed forces.
Paparo’s latest visit is expected to further develop cooperation in emerging technology, maritime security and broader Indo-Pacific defence priorities.
