MUMBAI, September 30: A Maharashtra government-appointed task force is considering a single registration portal for candidates appearing in multiple government recruitment examinations, along with a standardised examination process that could remain in place for the next five years.
The proposal is part of a wider review of the state’s recruitment system aimed at addressing concerns over examination delays, evaluation methods, transparency, question-paper quality and repeated registration requirements faced by aspirants.
Single Registration System Under Consideration
One of the major proposals being examined is a single registration system for government recruitment examinations conducted in Maharashtra.
Under such a system, candidates could register once, create a common profile and use the same credentials while applying for multiple government examinations.
The proposal could reduce the need for aspirants to repeatedly submit the same personal and educational information for different recruitment processes.
Five-Year Standardised Examination Process Proposed
The task force is also considering developing a standard operating procedure for recruitment examinations that could remain consistent for five years.
A standardised system could provide candidates with greater clarity about examination patterns, recruitment timelines and evaluation procedures.
The aim would be to avoid frequent changes that can make preparation difficult for aspirants.
Panel Interacts With More Than 1,500 Aspirants
The task force has held discussions with more than 1,500 government job aspirants while studying problems associated with the current recruitment system.
It has also received approximately 30,000 emails containing suggestions and feedback from candidates.
Around 200 aspirants from the Konkan division were among those who participated in direct interactions with the panel.
Detailed Review of Recruitment Process Planned
The committee plans to examine different stages of government recruitment examinations before submitting its recommendations.
Areas under review include question-paper preparation, examination schedules, evaluation procedures, transparency and communication of changes to candidates.
The panel is also examining how greater digitalisation could improve the recruitment process.
Report Expected by December
The task force is expected to complete its study and submit its report to the Maharashtra government by December 2026.
The recommendations will be based on feedback from aspirants as well as discussions with officials responsible for different government recruitment processes.
The government will then decide which proposals should be implemented.
Examination Delays Among Major Concerns
Frequent delays in government recruitment examinations have emerged as an important issue raised by aspirants.

The committee plans to examine recruitment systems followed by the Union Public Service Commission and other states.

Central Government Exams Could Eventually Be Linked
The Maharashtra committee is also discussing whether a future registration system could potentially be connected with examinations for central government vacancies.
