Indore’s 103-Year-Old Anant Chaturdashi Tableau Procession Set for September 25; DJs Barred

INDORE, September 24: Indore is preparing for its traditional Anant Chaturdashi tableau procession on September 25, with the 103-year-old event set to begin from the DRP Line area and move through central parts of the city. The district administration has completely banned DJs, allowing a maximum of two speakers per tableau as part of noise-control and safety measures.

Procession to Begin at 6 PM

The main procession is scheduled to begin at around 6 PM on September 25.

The first tableau will be from the Khajrana Ganesh Temple, followed by tableaux associated with local organisations, civic bodies and several former textile mills.

DJs Completely Banned

The district administration has imposed a complete ban on DJ systems during the procession.

Each tableau will be allowed a maximum of two speakers, and organisers violating the rules could face legal action. Officials said the restrictions are being implemented in accordance with noise-control requirements and court directions.

103-Year-Old Tradition Linked to Textile Mills

Indore’s tableau tradition dates back to the city’s historic textile-mill era.

Workers and mill committees began creating decorative tableaux during Ganeshotsav, and the tradition continued even after many of the mills closed.

The Indore district administration describes the procession as a distinctive local tradition in which elaborate tableaux created over several days move through the city before returning to their respective starting points.

Religious, Social and Civic Themes This Year

This year’s tableaux are expected to combine religious themes with social and civic messages.

The administration has said no new tableau will be added to the established procession lineup this year.

Akhadas accompanying the procession will also perform traditional martial and cultural displays at designated judging points.

Strict Rules for Akhadas and Tableaux

Organisers have been directed to follow fixed time limits while performing in front of judging platforms.

Performances exceeding the allotted time could face negative marking or deduction of points.

Authorities have also placed restrictions on dangerous weapons, tableau dimensions and accompanying vehicles.

Elephants and camels will not be permitted during the procession, while organisers have been asked to ensure vehicles and electrical systems are properly checked.

Drones and Face-Recognition Cameras Deployed

Indore Police will use drones, CCTV cameras and face-recognition technology to monitor crowded and sensitive locations along the procession route.

Police have also directed organisers to deploy volunteers, keep fire extinguishers and first-aid equipment ready and ensure that drivers are trained and sober. Breathalyser checks may be carried out.

Traffic Diversions From 3 PM on September 25

Major traffic restrictions will come into effect from 3 PM on September 25 and continue until the procession concludes.

Vehicles will be diverted away from areas including Rajwada, Jawahar Marg, Nandlalpura, Yashwant Road, Narsingh Bazaar and Khajuri Bazaar, among other crowded stretches.

Parking will also be prohibited at several locations along the route, while emergency vehicles will remain exempt from the restrictions.

Procession to Pass Through Central Indore

The tableau procession is expected to pass through major parts of central Indore, including the mill area, MG Road, Krishnapura, Jawahar Marg, Narsingh Bazaar, Khajuri Bazaar and Rajwada before the tableaux return to their respective areas.

Authorities have urged residents and visitors to follow traffic advisories and cooperate with police and civic teams during the event.
